StudentCam - 2020 Winners

StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. This year students in grades 6-12 were asked to create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary on a topic related to the competition theme, "What's Your Vision in 2020? Explore the issue you most want presidential candidates to address during the campaign."

11th Grade students Jason Lin, Amar Karoshi and Sara Yen from the Harker School in San Jose, CA won Grand Prize for their documentary on data privacy concerns with social media and tech companies, "Cmd-Delete: Technology's Damaging Effect on Democracy in 2020"

As this year's Grand Prize winners, Jason, Amar and Sara will receive $5,000. The team also won this year's "Fan Favorite" award. During a week long period of public voting where over 18,000 votes were cast, their video received over 6,300 of those votes. As "Fan Favorite" they receive an additional $500 cash prize.

C-SPAN is funded by America’s cable and satellite television companies, who also support StudentCam. In San Jose, C- SPAN is available locally through Comcast.

"Congratulations to Jason Lin, Amar Karoshi & Sara Yen on their hard work, creativity and well-deserved recognition,” said Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Impact, Comcast. "Comcast is committed to strengthening our communities through educational programs and we are proud to partner with C-SPAN in its mission to encourage students to think critically about issues that affect our country.”
