StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. 2023 marked the 19th year of the competition and we invited middle and high school students to create a short documentary addressing the theme: "If you were a newly elected member of Congress, which issue would be your first priority and why?"
9th grade students Jane Harrison-Millman & Shira Sweet from Northampton High School in Massachusetts won 3rd Prize for their documentary, "The Pain Within: Addressing Domestic Abuse in America."
C-SPAN is funded by America’s cable and satellite television companies, who also support StudentCam. In Northampton, C-SPAN is available locally through Comcast.
"Comcast is proud to honor our Northampton winners in the 2023 StudentCam competition," said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Western New England Region, which includes western Massachusetts. "What an inspiration to hear young voices tackle such an important issue in a creative and thoughtful way. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Jane and Shira on this outstanding achievement."
