StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. 2024 marked the 20th anniversary of the competition and we invited middle and high school students to create a short documentary addressing the theme, "Looking Forward while Considering the Past."
8th grade students Troy Basu, Andrew Sloan, & Nicky Dowd from Dexter Southfield School in Brookline, Massachusetts won 2nd Prize for their documentary about legislation and government transparency, "Behind Closed Doors." As 2nd Prize winners, the team will share $1,500 in prize money.
C-SPAN is funded by America’s cable and satellite television companies, who also support StudentCam. In Brookline, C-SPAN is available locally through Comcast.
“Comcast is proud to honor our Brookline winners in the 2024 StudentCam competition,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region, which includes Massachusetts. “What an inspiration to hear young voices tackle such important issues in a creative and thoughtful way. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to all of our winning students on this outstanding achievement.”
